Youths march in Lagos in order to declare their support for the APC Presidential Candidate, Tinubu and the Governorship Candidate, Sanwo Olu, in preparation for the forthcoming elections.
In preparation for the 2023 elections, young people in Lagos State organized a peaceful protest on Saturday to demonstrate their support for the party’s candidates for governor of the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Bola Tinubu, who is running for president in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The young people were spotted marching from Maryland to Police College via Ikeja, the state capital, while carrying various APC props including brooms and flags.
They were also spotted carrying enormous banners with striking images of Sanwo-Olu and his running mate, Obafemi Hamzat, and Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima.
Youths March In Lagos For Tinubu, Sanwo Olu
Seyi, Tinubu’s son, organized a protest that is known as the “Eko Youth Walk For Tinubu- Shettima, Sanwo-Olu- Hamzat.”
Numerous personnel from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were heavily represented at the march.
In a warning on Friday, LASTMA said that owing to the march, some routes in the state capital and surrounding areas will be temporarily closed to traffic on Saturday.
This is Tinubu’s third significant gathering in Lagos. The first was organized on October 3, 2022, by women who came out to support Tinubu. The Chairman of Lagos State Parks and Recreation organized the second demonstration, which took place two weeks ago.
Former governor of Lagos from 1999 to 2007, Tinubu is a leading candidate for the top position at Aso Rock, competing against Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) in what observers have dubbed a “three-horse race.”
In a similar vein, Sanwo-Olu, the current governor of Lagos, is running with Hamzat for reelection. Olajide Adediran of the PDP, better known by his stage name Jandor, is Sanwo-main Olu’s rival to date.
Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State and a prominent PDP figure, recently backed Sanwo-Olu.
However, Jandor chastised Wike for doing so while taking questions on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday.
“Nobody expects that a party man, a national leader will do that for any reason at all, but it has happened and there is nothing we can do about it.
“My worry is this, he should be our role model at his level, as a governor, your office should come with a symbol of decorum,” the PDP governorship candidate in Lagos said.
Jandor also noted that he did “not do anything” against Wike to warrant such treatment, claiming that Sanwo-Olu has failed Lagosians.
