The promoters of Slap Fight, TKK Sport, on Tuesday said they have not been able to organise another edition of Slap Fight since its maiden edition in February 2022 due to logistics challenges.
The Media Manager, Kayode Agba, TKK Sport, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
He said the company had planned to use lessons gained from the inaugural edition as the base to plan the next edition of the contest.
NAN reports that slap fight is a newly introduced sport in Nigeria, which has been mordenised in Russia and has gained popularity in the U.S. and some European countries.
Slap fight is a combat sport in which two athletes stand face to face and take turns to slap each other with bare hands without head protection.
The competitors slap each other hard around the face, on the cheek, with open hand, while a win is decided by a knock-out or a judge’s verdict.
The first edition of the slap fight, which took place in 2022, was divided into four categories: middleweight, lightweight, heavyweight and super heavyweight.
Agba said for the competition to be well established in Nigeria, there was need for adequate planning.
“We are yet to organise the second edition due to logistics reason and some issues in the first edition which we need to attend to.
“The maiden edition was successful and we are still in the process of the second edition. What we found out is that most of the athletes that participated in the last edition were not adequately prepared for it.
“For the next edition, we want them to be prepared and we want to be more prepared and be sure that the athletes are trained.
“Before the next edition, we want to have workshops and training on Slap Fight and its rudiments. We might be having the next edition next year,” he said.
