Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, better known by her stage name Nicki Minaj, is a Trinidadian rapper living in the United States. The University of California, Berkeley, has announced that it will offer a course on her.
According to a tweet posted last week by ProfessorPeace And Love El Henson, the university will provide African-American studies about Minaj during the Spring 2023 semester.
Next year, the course “Nicki Minaj: The Black Barbie Femmecee & Hip Hop Feminisms” will feature around 90-minute lectures on Tuesdays and Thursdays, according to the university’s academic handbook.
The well-known rapper responded to the tweet by saying, “I’d love to pop by.” She also retweeted an another news story with a gif that was snapping.
The most recent rapper to be the focus of a college course is Nicki Minaj. According to USA Today, Georgia Regents University offered an English Composition course in 2014 that focused on Kendrick Lamar.
James Baldwin, James Joyce, Gwendolyn Brooks, and the narrative for the 1991 movie “Boyz in the Hood” were all juxtaposed with lyrics from Lamar’s 2012 album “good kid, m.A.A.d city.”

2011 saw the introduction of a Jay-Z-focused course at Georgetown University, according to The Washington Post. The instructor of the seminar, “Sociology of Hip-Hop: Jay-Z,” was Michael Eric Dyson.
At the time, Dyson said, “We look at his incredible body of work, we look at his own understanding of his work, we look at others who reflect upon him, and then we ask the students to engage in critical analysis of Jay-Z himself.”
The Minaj course will begin on January 17 and run until May 5, 2023.
