The University of Lagos, UNILAG has produced its first-ever female Vice Chancellor, thay being, Professor Folashade Ogunshola.
Ogunshola, who teaches microbiology at the College of Medicine, will succeed departing Vice Chancellor Prof. Toyin Ogundipe, whose term expires the following month.
Prior to Prof Ogundipe’s federal government reinstatement, Prof Ogunsola had served as acting vice chancellor after Prof Ogundipe had been temporarily dismissed following the turmoil that broke out at the university two years prior.
Folasade Tolulope Ogunsola specializes in the prevention and treatment of diseases, particularly HIV/AIDS. Ogunsola is known for being the first woman to hold the position of provost at the University of Lagos’, UNILAG College of Medicine.
Prof. Ogunsola has also held the positions of Deputy Vice Chancellor and Provost of the College of Medicine.
A new vice chancellor will be selected via a trustworthy and open process, Senator Lanre Tejuosho, the chairman of the university’s governing council, had earlier promised.
A number of celebrations for the University’s 60th anniversary are set to begin on Monday.
