Trader arrested for allegedly: Samuel Mathew, a 24-year-old shop owner, was arrested after being accused of defiling Sadiya Hassan, a 12-year-old minor
Abdullahi Maina, General Manager of the Nasarawa State Agency for Youth Empowerment Scheme (NAYES), announced this on Tuesday, July 13 at the Command Headquarters in Lafia.
Maina stated that Mathew was brought to the Command by some Doma Road residents after allegedly raping a minor selling Madidi, a millet-based local dish.
Maina revealed that when he noticed the (minor) was bleeding profusely in the office, he rushed her to the nearest primary health care centre, where she was examined.
In his words, he said “they had to stitch her up, and then they demanded that the suspect be brought in for testing to see if he was HIV-free or not.
“The test was performed, and he was found to be HIV-free. I have contacted the state coordinator for human rights as well as the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Development to determine the next course of action”, he stated.
Maina assured the public that the victim would receive justice, stating that the Command would work with the main security outfit in charge of such cases and would also ensure that the matter was not swept under the rug.

Abbas Ibrahim, the alleged rape victim’s uncle, also claimed that Samuel, who raped his niece, injured her private part, causing her to lose so much blood.
Ibrahim claimed the suspect called his niece and told her he wanted to buy Madidi, a millet-based local dish, and then forced her into his shop where he had canal knowledge of her.
The suspect, on the other hand, has repeatedly denied the allegation, claiming that he is being framed.
“I was in my shop when I noticed the girl selling Madidi. I called her to bring me Madidi, so I asked if she had N1,000 change, but she said no.
“I noticed her eyes were red and didn’t know what had happened, so I asked her to leave.
“She began crying as she was leaving my shop and when people sitting outside asked her what the problem was, she said that I closed her mouth and raped her, and then people came in and concluded that I raped her but was not guilty”, he said.
