Three people have been killed in a mob attack at a police station in Yagba-West LGA of Kogi State where robbery suspects were kept.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 14, according to a statement released by the Kogi police command on Thursday, December 16.
The robberies at three banks in Odo-Ere and Egbe towns in the LGA prompted the mob attack, according to police. Two suspects were apprehended after a manhunt.
The manhunt, according to Kogi police spokesperson William Aya, was carried out in collaboration with operatives from other security agencies, hunters, and vigilantes.
He further said the team relocated the manhunt to Oke-Ere Hills, where the robbery suspects were caught.
According to Aya, an enraged community mob went to the station where the suspects were being held, demanding that they be released for lynching. It devolved into violence, resulting in the death of Inspector Bamisaye Gbenga. PC Sunday Alechenu, while another police officer, was injured.

According to the police spokesperson, in an effort to disperse the mob, a male and female were maimed and both died in the hospital while receiving treatment. He also stated that the mob set fire to a portion of the station.
