Tems, an afrobeats singer, took home the Best Collaboration Award at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards for her work on Future’s and Drake-featuring song “Wait for U.”
The achievement enhanced the gifted singer’s award-winning and world-record-breaking year.
For her work on Future’s “Wait For U,” the 27-year-old received three nominations, including Song of the Year, Best Hip Hop Video, and Best Collaboration.
To win the Best Collaboration Award, Tems’ “Wait For U” beat out other nominees such as “Family Ties” by Baby Keem & Kendrick Lamar, “Way 2 Sexy” by Drake Featuring Future & Young Thug, and “Hot Shit” by Cardi B, Kanye West, & Lil Durk.
Burna Boy, a fellow megastar performer who was nominated for Video Director of the Year for his independently produced music video Last Last, lost to Kendrick Lamar & Dave Free.
Tems gained notoriety when she appeared on Wizkid’s 2020 single, “Essence,” which received a Grammy Award nomination and peaked at number ten on the Billboard Hot 100 after receiving a remix with Justin Bieber’s added appearance. She appeared on Drake’s song “Fountains” the same year.
