Suspected Fulani herdsmen have killed eight people, including a woman and her four children in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue state.
According to reports, the armed men stormed the community, a border town with Nasarawa State, around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24, when the majority of the youths were still at the market square because it was a market day.
The assailants broke into the community from one of the forests bordering Benue and Nasarawa state and opened fire on the woman, her four children, including twins, and others.
Franc Fagah Utoo, Principal Special Assistant to the Governor of Benue State, who is from the community, expressed his condolences to Mr Peter Akera, who lost his wife and four children, as well as others who lost loved ones and described the attack as heinous and unforgivable.

Late Akera’s wife gave birth to their children after two miscarriages, according to Franc Fagah Utoo.
