The British-Nigerian actress Stephanie Coker plans to release a documentary to increase public awareness about polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
Ovaries that are swollen and have little cysts on the margins are a symptom of the hormonal disease PCOS.
Michael “AMA Psalmist” Akinrogunde is the director of Coker’s documentary, “Where The Heck Is My Period.”
It will make its debut at the AFRIFF, which will take place from November 6 to November 12 in 2022.
The research includes interviews with PCOS-affected Nigerian women from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
It also emphasizes the difficulties they encounter.
To further explain the condition, the documentary will feature interviews with gynecologists, pastors, famous people, and native African medical professionals.
Stephanie Coker revealed that she wanted to “inform people” when asked why she was making the film.
She claimed that at age 16, the condition was also identified in her.
She said, “I wanted to bring greater awareness to this incurable condition, educate others about it, and possibly help young girls going through the same challenges.
Women who have PCOS may experience irregular or missing periods, excessive levels of male hormones, and ovarian cyst formation.
The syndrome causes women to create more male hormones than is typical.
They frequently have irregular menstrual cycles as a result.
Women with PCOS may experience hirsutism in addition to irregular menstrual cycles.
This disorder sometimes results in baldness as well as excessive hair growth on the face, body, and legs.
Stephanie won the MTV Freederm Presenter Competition in 2010, and as a result, she appeared in a TV commercial.
She received a commission from OHTV (UK) for her documentary about young Nigerians, Christmas in Lagos, in the same year (2010).
In 2011, Stephanie received a presenter position on London 360, a magazine-style news program on the Community Channel (UK), after completing training with Media Trust on their TV diversity program.
