Lift Me Up, Rihanna’s debut solo song, was made for the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She released her last single, “Anti,” in 2016.
Tems, Rihanna, Ludwig Göransson, and the movie’s director, Ryan Coogler, all contributed to the song’s writing. It pays homage to the late Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020 following a personal fight with colon cancer that he was diagnosed with in 2016.
On Tuesday, October 25, Marvel Studios posted a little video confirming that Rihanna will be on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.
Tems wrote on her instagram profile that she felt fortunate to have co-written the song in Chadwick Boseman’s honor. She continued, saying that seeing the baddest Rihanna do it flawlessly made her feel even more blessed.
“Thrilled to have written this song in Chadwick Boseman’s honor, and even more blessed to have the baddest @badgalriri perform it flawlessly”, the author stated in her post.
Rihanna responded by posting in Tems’ comment section that Tems’ writing prowess was what made it happen for her.
She said, “It’s the pen for me, love to you sister.” It seems both Tems and Rihanna are in very good terms with eachother, it is really amazing.
