Pep’ Guardiola acknowledges being taken aback by Haaland.
Since his summer transfer to Manchester City, Haaland has been on fire. With a brace over the weekend, he now has 22 goals overall and 17 goals in the Premier League this season. Even Guardiola has been taken aback by how impressive the Norwegian has been, and he attributes this to the player’s professionalism off the field.
Speaking to reporters, Guardiola said: “I didn’t know how good he was moving in small spaces in the box, he scores a lot in the box. He goes away from the action to be closer to the goal, these kind of moments is not easy for a striker. Apart from that his work ethic, he is one of the first to arrive for the training centre, one of the last to leave. He looks after his body, well educated in how he has to live as a professional and he has the intent to get better. Last season he had a few injury problems but this year thanks to our doctors and physios he can play every three days which is really important for us and for him.”
Haaland obviously puts up the effort, and Guardiola praises his efforts off the field. He follows an insane diet that includes consuming over 6,000 calories daily and includes foods like heart and liver on a regular basis.
This week, the striker will play Borussia Dortmund away in the Champions League, going back to his former haunts. In order to help City advance to the round of 16, he will be attempting to add to his five goals thus far in the competition.
