Ondo State Sports Council has assured of its continued collaboration with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ondo State Chapter, to propagate sporting activities in the state and beyond.
Mr Henry Babatunde, General Manager, Ondo State Sports Council, gave the assurance on Thursday in Akure during a courtesy visit by the new executives of Ondo SWAN.
Babatunde, who congratulated the newly inaugurated executives of SWAN, acknowledged the role of sports writers in disseminating information to develop sports at the grassroots.
He assured that the council would look into the request of the association to boost their reportage, and not relent in its efforts to make the state proud at the youth games holding in Delta State.
“I want to reaffirm my pledge that whatever is in our power to do, we will do it in the interest of all. Let’s work together in unity and as a team,” he said.
Earlier, Mr Segun Giwa, the new Chairman of Ondo SWAN, thanked the management of the sports council for providing a space for the association’s secretariat, which would ensure continuous synergy between athletes and sports writers.
Giwa emphasised the need for the deployment of media officers to each sports association for adequate reportage of other sports apart from football.
”I am using this medium to tell the General Manager that there is a need to incorporate media officers to handle coverage of other sports apart from football,” he said.
Giwa further charged the management of the sports council to ensure that Ondo State was well represented at the youth games.
He called on the government and well-meaning Nigerians to collaborate with the executives for a befitting office to host sports administrators and guests at the secretariat.
