After losing his leg as a result of a gunshot wound sustained by officers from the state security network agency known as Amotekun, a commercial Okada rider has sued the Ondo State Government.
Oluwarotimi Oluwasegun, 36, claimed that on August 9, 2021, he was shot by Amotekun men in the Araromi neighborhood of Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
his left leg had to be amputated as a result of the gunshot wound.
In several of the photographs that were included with the lawsuit, he was pictured sitting with crutches while wearing black shorts that exposed the tip of the stump from his amputated left leg.
In some of the pictures, he was also seen standing on his right leg, using crutches to support himself, and hiding the stump of his amputated leg under his shorts.
‘The Okada rider’, as commercial motorcycle riders are known, filed a lawsuit in Akure’s Ondo State High Court seeking N100 million in damages.
More than a year after the incident, on October 28, his attorney, Tope Temokun, filed the case.
After receiving a response from the state government to his letter of complaint on October 26, 2022, Mr. Temokun filed the lawsuit, claiming that his client was detained while Amotekun police were searching for suspects in kidnapping and robbery crimes.
In his declaration submitted in support of his lawsuit, Mr. Oluwasegun called the state government’s assertion “an awful falsehood.”
The state’s attorney general, justice commissioner, and State Security Network Agency are all named as co-defendants in the lawsuit against the Ondo state government.
