An Expert has requested that the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU’ should follow the National Industrial Court’s ruling.
Additionally, he asked the union to follow democratic procedure and return to the classroom as patriotic intellectuals, and to forgo filing an appeal against the ruling.
In a statement he released on Thursday in Abuja, Ibrahim, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, made the appeal.
He urged the Federal Government to drop its claim at the National Industrial Court rather than continuing with it.
He asserts that the government must also order the quick payment of the ASUU members’ unpaid salary so that they can get back to their academic pursuits.
Ibrahim said that the ongoing situation might be resolved by an alternative dispute resolution system.
He expressed his appreciation with President Muhammadu Buhari’s assurance that he would undertake additional consultations to resolve the ASUU’ dispute.
Such a solid assurance, in his opinion, offers some hope that the issue will soon be resolved.
The human resources specialist also urged the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to refrain from further escalating the situation by making divisive statements and staging demonstrations, since the matter was intended to be brought under control.
Ibrahim expressed confidence that the Federal Government would, without a doubt, pay their unpaid wages from March through September of this year, allowing academic activities to resume unhindered.
He also demanded that talks resume as soon as the strike is put off.
He contends that litigation has a tendency to drag out proceedings, making other dispute resolution mechanisms preferable.
