Bola Tinubu has implored the Christian leaders to take him into consideration based on his accomplishments, ambitions, and agenda for improving Nigeria.
The Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, met behind closed doors, and the Christian leaders swear they won’t back Tinubu’s campaign.
They met on September 22, 2022, in Abuja.
The chairman of the gathering, Archbishop John Praise, stated that the Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria is not committed to endorsing anyone.
“We are not committed to endorsing anybody, but you should ask your conscience and from what you have heard and from the explanation, he (Tinubu) had given to us to make your own judgement of who will better rule and handle the country,” Praise said.
As he defended his party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket before Christian leaders, Tinubu claimed that Kashim Shettima, a former governor of Borno state, was chosen as his running mate due to his competency rather than his faith.
The former governor of Lagos State argued that Nigeria’s political and socioeconomic problems can only be solved by competent people.
The Christian community has always counted on Tinubu’s friendship, he claimed.
He therefore pleaded with the Christian leaders to take his record, his ambitions, and his agenda for the development of Nigeria into consideration.
Days prior to Tinubu’s meeting with the Northern Bishops, Yakubu Dogara and Babachir Lawal, former Secretaries to the Government of the Federation, pledged to mobilize the northern Christian electorate to vote against the ruling party’s presidential nominee.
