A Nigerian man and his girlfriend have been arrested by PNP-Anti Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) agents in Bacoor City Cavite for scamming a locale a PHP2.2 million online love fraud.
Lt. Michael Bernardo, the team head of the Quezon City District Anti Cybercrime Team named Ikenna Onuoha, 37, and Jacel Ann Paderan, 28, as the suspects in a statement released signed by him on November 3, 2022.
He noted that on November 1, 2022, QCDACT and the Quezon City District Special Operation Unit officers conducted an operation in Molino, Bacoor City, Cavite, and detained the suspects, a Nigerian man and his girlfriend.
According to the police, the victim and the Nigerian guy connected through an online dating service and have been dating since April 2020.
The Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 230 has issued arrest orders for the suspects for swindling/estafa, which are still pending.
The victim of Onuoha, whom he met online, filed a complaint, which gave rise to his arrest.
The victim claims that she began seeing the suspect in April 2020. The suspect then identified himself as “Demir Balik,” a citizen of Turkey.
The victim added that throughout their virtual connection, the suspect made numerous promises which she took seriously.
The suspect was successful in persuading the victim to transfer him PHP2, 282,000 in cash.
The money, according to the police, was transferred to the accounts.
According to the victim, Onuoha informed her that he needed money to settle a dormant account he had at a British bank.
The victim understood she was being duped when the suspect demanded more money from her and made the decision to report the event to our office, according to Bernardo.
Elizares, the third suspect, is still at large.
According to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, the suspects are accused of swindling/estafa and abusing the use of information and communications technologies.
