Nigeria on Sunday in Kigali defeated Kenya and Botswana by three and six wickets respectively in Match Day 2 games at the ongoing KwibukaT20 Women’s Cricket Tournament in Rwanda.
The victory makes it three wins in three games for the Nigerian team as they had on Saturday defeated hosts Rwanda.
In the matches on Sunday, Nigeria lost the toss and were sent on to field.
But they produced an outstanding performance to see off her rivals.
Most notable was in beating Kenya who are ranked six places above Nigeria by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The east Africans are 23rd on the table while Nigeria sit in 29th place.
But the west Africans showed class on the day to beat the four-time Kwibuka champions.
In the first innings of the game, Queentor Abel’s 51 runs in 55 balls helped see the Kenyans race to a decent score of 95/4 in 20 overs.
Nigeria responded quickly, needing only 16.4 overs to see off Kenya, scoring 98/7 to beat their rivals by three wickets.
In the game against Botswana, Nigeria also needed 16.2 overs to score 98/4 after Botswana had set the target of 97/6 in 20 overs.
The Nigerian team went on to win by six wickets.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old Piety Lucky was named Player of the Match in both games following her batting performance in the matches.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nigeria will now face Uganda on Monday in continuation of the competition.
The KwibukaT20 tournament is expected to end on Saturday.
