Temilade Openiyi, popularly known by her stage name Tems, a Nigerian singer and songwriter has narrated her rise to popularity in a new post.
The singer said that, despite beginning her musical career in Lagos Nigeria, she has subsequently travelled the world and that her life has served as a “testimony.”
Tems made the comments while speaking at the Essence Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana.
“You know, my life is a testimony. I guess, for those who don’t understand, I’m from Lagos, Nigeria”, Tems said.

Tems rose to prominence with a stellar performance as a guest on Wizkid’s ‘Essence,’ which appeared on his album ‘Made In Lagos,’ and the release of a remix version with Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber in 2021.
Tems has earned international recognition since then and has received a Grammy award.
Tems took home the award for Best Melodica Rap Performance at the 65th Grammy Awards on February 6, 2023, for her contribution to Future’s “Wait For U,” which also featured Drake.
