Muslim-Muslim Ticket: “We Have No Agreement With APC’s Tinubu” -CAN says
The Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress drew harsh criticism from the Christian Association of Nigeria on Monday, reiterating its continued opposition to the ticket.
Additionally, it stated that it had not come to an agreement with Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate.
On Monday, there was a report that Tinubu had a meeting with the CAN leadership to discuss the controversy surrounding the party’s decision to field a Muslim-Muslim ticket in the general elections of 2023.
Tinubu’s choice of Kashim Shettima, a former governor of Borno State, as his running partner infuriated the nation’s Christian majority.
In a statement released on Monday, the Christian organization insisted that it had not modified its position on the divisive Muslim-Muslim ticket, refuting reports that Tinubu and CAN had reached an accord.
Muslim-Muslim Ticket: CAN Maintains its Position” was the heading of the statement issued by Luminous Jannamike, the association’s Special Assistant on Media.
The association further cautioned that Tinubu’s attendance and donation at the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah’s 70th birthday celebration last week, should not be interpreted as a financial inducement bribe to appease the Christian community.

The statement partly read, “The attention of the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria has been drawn to a media report titled, ‘How Tinubu met, resolved Muslim-Muslim ticket with CAN’, which claimed that the apex Christian body had changed its position regarding the same faith ticket.
“To say the least, the story is ridiculous, malicious, untrue and should be disregarded in its entirety by all reasonable members of the society.
“For the records, CAN took a position against the same faith ticket imbroglio under the leadership of Rev. Dr Samson Ayokunle, its immediate past national president and as a matter of fact, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel Okoh, stands on that same position.”
