The Niger State Police Command has arrested one Umar Jibril for allegedly murdering a cleric whom he said had a love affair with his second wife.
The Niger State Commissioner of police Adamu Usman confirmed the arrest of Jibril a native of Enagi village in the Edati Local Government Area of the State to newsmen in Minna the State capital
According to Usman, the suspect was arrested on Monday, April 12, 2021, at about 0100 hours, on reliable information.
He went on to say that the suspect stabbed Alhaji Attahiru Alhassan, the Chief Imam of Edagi, to death with an iron rod.

“During interrogation, the suspect alleged that, when relaxing in front of his home, the deceased walked past him and went into his neighbour’s house,” Usman said.
He said that at the same time, his second wife, Aishatu Umar, came from the compound and said she was heading to the toilet, which was located just behind the compound.
The suspect told police that after waiting for her return for some time, he went around looking for his wife and then heard her voice in a neighbour’s home.
He said that he entered the house and saw the deceased and his wife and that he immediately fled the scene and ran to a relative, Abubakar Abdulrahman, to tell him of what he had witnessed.
The suspect said that not long after, the deceased summoned him for a discussion.
According to the suspect, an altercation erupted during the meeting, and he took an iron rod and stabbed the deceased on the neck, resulting in his death.
According to the Police Commissioner, the suspect fled after the incident and was chased to Batati village in the Lavun Local Government area, where he was apprehended.
“Investigation has begun, and the suspect will be arraigned as soon as the investigation is finished,” he said.
