Man City Fans have become desperate for the club’s manager, Pep `Guardiola to sign a contract extension. There is anxiety that when the Catalan leaves – and his contract expires next year – the club’s period of unheard-of success will come to an end.
Why are Manchester City fans so dissatisfied when they have the finest manager, striker, and team?
Jamie Carragher, a former defender for Liverpool, questioned the Premier League Champions’ defeat at Anfield earlier this month.
It was a reasonable query. Who could ever forget the crowd’s dejected expressions as City thrashed Manchester United in the local derby?
Or when Erling Haaland scored his 22nd goal in yjust 16 games, the agony on his face.
In any honesty, it’s hard to find someone who isn’t thrilled right now at the Etihad.
The club was undoubtedly displeased with the refereeing at Anfield and the loss to Liverpool hurt.
But it’s important to keep in mind that City, who won their group in the Champions League, just advanced to the next round, and that they are just two points behind Arsenal in the Premier League standings.
It’s fair to say that life is good for those live in the blue half of Manchester, and has been for some time, given that they have won four titles in five years and have one of the most exciting young squads in international football.
While City supporters aren’t currently upset, they do have one worry.
The supporters are aware that this time period is over despite Klopp’s heated assertion that City cannot be matched.
Every English footballing dynasty has eventually come to an end, and given the caliber of City’s adversaries, it will happen again.
Although the exact timing is unclear at the moment, with City remaining the most reliable team in the nation, the fans rightly worry that Pep Guardiola, whose contract ends at the conclusion of the season, will decide everything.
Without its leader, a superb team constructed in the Catalan coach’s image would crumble. Not that the city manager agrees.
“There will be zero problem [when I leave]; I am 100% convinced,” `Guardiola said earlier this month.
“They know what the strategy is, what they have to do right now. And the day after tomorrow. And after the world Cup. And next season. And the next season after that.
“When a club depends on one person, you have a problem, as it means that the club is not solid, is not stable.
“The foundations of the club are built by many people. If the club just depended on me, it would mean that we have not done a very good job in this period.”
`Guardiola may well be right about City’s bright future without him, but there won’t be many keen to test that theory until its absolute necessary.
Asked again ahead of Saturday’s trip to Leicester whether he had agreed a new deal, he simply said: “Not yet.”
This, of course, is the longest reign of his coaching career but there is still every chance that he could extend his stay into an eighth season.
Remember that the club announced that he had signed a new contract under exactly identical circumstances, with little over six months remaining on his existing term, in November of the previous year.
Talks “will be had at the right time, at the right pace, and with the pace, time, and framework that works for Pep,” chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said in the summer. He also said he would not put any pressure on Guardiola to extend his stay at the Etihad.
It would seem reasonable for Guardiola to make a decision about his future during the six weeks the Premier League will be suspended for the World Cup in Qatar.
Of course, there are many good reasons to stay. A developing team with promising young players like Phil Foden and Erling Haaland arguably has the potential to become the best of his City tenure.
However, until he makes a commitment, there will be more rumors, and anxious City supporters will keep attempting to interpret everything Guardiola says.
He declared at the beginning of the season, “I wouldn’t trade my life here in a minute. “Seven seasons have already aired. After talking with the club, Middle of the season, end of the season, we will talk again about how we feel and decide what’s best for the club.
“I said many times that, if they want it, I’d like to stay longer. But, at the same time, I have to be sure”, `Guardiola said.
City supporters will do every effort to persuade him. Because, despite what Carragher claims, Guardiola’s leaving is the only thing that might make them truly unhappy at this time.
