After his team’s World Cup victory, the Argentine forward posted a picture of himself with the trophy on social media.
“CAMPEONES DEL MUNDO!!!!!!!” is how Messi, 35, captioned the Sunday image. With 56.5 million likes as of Tuesday afternoon, the egg photo—shared by a user going by the handle @world record egg—previously held the record for being the most liked image. 2019-01-04 is the date that photo was published.
But some Instagram users have rallied to like the egg picture in an attempt to break the record.

This achievement would see him receive a record seventh Ballon d’Or in 2021, making him one of the greatest.
