Polish professional mixed martial artist Jan Blachowicz has defeated the undefeated Nigerian- born Israel Adesanya as he retains his lightmiddleweight title in the Ultimate Fighting Championship UFC on Saturday, March 6, 2021.
Blachowicz (28-8) made his first title defense in spectacular fashion, outworking Adesanya (20-1), the formidable 185-pound champion who was moving up for a chance at history.
In the fourth and fifth rounds, the Polish champion used his height advantage to take control of the fight with two big takedowns and successive ground control.
Blachowicz won his fifth consecutive fight when he defeated Dominick Reyes by second-round at UFC 253 in September 2020 to win the UFC light middleweight title.
Meanwhile, Adesanya , a middleweight champion, won his first nine fights in the UFC before losing to Blachowicz .
Speaking after the fight Isearl said he is happy to have lost to a champion like Blachowicz whom he said timed him to the last round before defeating him.
“I will have to take a look at the tape and see where my mind was before the knockdown”
“Also he won’t make a space to punch because he knew if he gave me space I will get back up because I’m slippery”
“Credit to him he’s a great champion,” Adesanya said.
On his part, Jan Blachowicz said he is happy he won and defended his belt.
“Now I have proven I’m a great champion and I will get respect from everybody
“He is a great fighter, he keeps distance so I can’t get to him, and he kicks had
“I feel it on my leg right now Blachowicz said.
Like Nunes, Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier, and Henry Cejudo, Adesanya would have been the fifth fighter in UFC history to hold two titles at the same time.
