Lawmakers at the National House of Assembly have been reported to be in fear as they receive notification of a possible attack from members of Boko Haram Insurgents on the National Assembly complex and other public buildings in Abuja.
This was disclosed in a statement signed and issued on May 4, 2021, by Mr Usman Shiddi, the Chairman of the House Committee on Internal Security in the National Assembly.
The notice was sent to the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, other principal officers, and all members of the House.
It was titled ‘Re: planned insurgent attacks in Abuja on VIP locations, government facilities, and assets.’
“I refer to the above subject, for which a copy of the intelligence report from the Force Intelligence Bureau of the Nigeria Police Force in the National Assembly Complex has been made available to my office,” the alert stated.

“According to the report, some elements of Boko Haram are planning insurgent attacks on VIP locations, government facilities, and assets in Abuja, including the National Assembly complex.
“In light of the foregoing intelligence, I believe it is imperative that all members use the presidential gate for entry or exit from now on.
“This is to avoid the unforeseen congestions that can occur at the main gates, as such congestions can easily become targets for these insurgent elements.
“Security agencies, on the other hand, are actively working to uncover and contain the intended threat. Please accept my heartfelt regards,” the statement said.
As a result, security has been increased in and around the complex as security operatives checked vehicles entering the premises, causing traffic congestion, particularly at the third (and final) gate.
Previously, security operatives were only interested in the identities of drivers and passengers in order to confirm that they were staff members, legislative aides, journalists, or people working in private businesses in the complex.
