An Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State on Wednesday sentenced a 27 years old welder and Jailbird, Olusegun Osowe, to three years imprisonment for prison escape.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Philip Akinlosetu, convicted Jailbird Osowe on a three-count charge bordering on felony, breach of peace and unlawful escape from the Correctional Centre.
Akinlosetu summarily sentenced the convict after his guilty plea.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp Ayodeji Omoyeigha told the court that a court of competent jurisdiction had convicted and sentenced the jailbird to two years imprisonment for burglary and stealing on Oct. 22, 2022.
Omoyeigha told the court that the convict had escaped from the Okitipupa Correctional Centre before he was re-arrested and -re-arraigned for felony, breach of peace and unlawful escape from correctional centre.
He said the offences contravened Sections 135, 249(d) and 18(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Law of Ondo State, 2006.
An Akure Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday, remanded a 20-year-old apprentice, Josiah Godwin, at the Olokuta Correctional Centre, Akure, for allegedly killing his master, Mr Saviour Joseph.
Godwin, whose house address was not provided, is standing trial for alleged conspiracy and murder.
The Magistrate, Mr Idowu Mayowa, ordered the remand of the defendant and adjourned the case until March 17 for receipt of legal advice.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Folasade Adeyemi had applied for the remand of the defendant, pending the advice of the State Director of Public Prosecutor (DPP).
He told the court that the defendant killed his employer, Joseph and dumped the body in a well in Imafon Community in Akure South Local Government Area of the state.
Adeyemi said that the offences contravened Section 269 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State Nigeria, 2006.
Defence counsel, Mr Friday Adeoye, did not object to the prosecution’s application for remand.
