Inspector and 3 gunmen killed: A police inspector has been killed as gunmen attacked and burned down the Orlu police station on Thursday, August 5.
Three of the gunmen were also killed in the ensuing gunfight.
According to Mike Abattam, the Imo police spokesperson, the gunmen attacked and threw explosives and petrol bombs on top of the roof of the Orlu Police Station around 9:35 p.m., damaging the roof and causing a fire in the station.
The fire damaged some vehicles in the parking lot, and it was learned that the command’s tactical teams on the ground engaged and subdued the gunmen in a gun duel.
“Three of the bandits were apprehended, and their weapons, one pump action gun and two locally-made double barrel pistols were recovered, while others fled into the bush with bullet wounds.
“Unfortunately, a police officer was killed in the attack,” Abattam said.
