Negotiation is described as negotiation or dialogue between two or more persons or parties with the goal of achieving a beneficial outcome over one or more issues where there is a disagreement.
Banditry is defined as a type of organized crime committed by outlaws typically involving the use of violence.
A bandit, on the other hand, is a person who engages in banditry and primarily commits crimes such as theft, robbery, and murder, either individually or in groups.
Bringing the above keywords in our society today, especially in Nigeria negotiating with Bandits is becoming a trend as the Federal Government has over the years chosen negotiation as a safe means of releasing those abducted by Bandits.
Reacting to the issue of Negotiating with Bandits Dr. Gilbert an Abuja-based Doctor said It’s against the law of the country and even internationally.
“Bandits are not legal groups and do not deserve such pampering attention.
“Bandits should be treated with force and they are a big threat to our national security, “he said.
Mr. Daniel Umeh said negotiating with Bandits is a dangerous development because it is a way of empowering them.
“Negotiating with the bandits will require the government to release the money to them thereby giving them more resources to acquire more dangerous weapons to continue to perpetuate their evil acts “he added. Mr. Michael Said negotiating with Bandits is leading the Country to gradual anarchy and a state of lawlessness.
“If you continue to negotiate with bandits It will continue to escalate and become a business
He also urged the government to overhaul the security infrastructure if vulnerabilities are found as a means of preventing such incidents, and to include community leaders in the solution-providing process.
