International Committee of the Red Cross ( ICRC) in Nasarawa State says it has disbursed N75,000 each to 2,500 farmers in Doma Local Government Area of the state to boost food production.
Mr Henry John, the Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture in the state, disclosed this at a meeting with the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Water Resources, Mr Nuhu Ibrahim in Lafia on Friday.
He said the gesture was aimed at encouraging food production in the area and the state at large.
He said it would also “enable farmers buy food that will sustain them to harvest season in order to improve their standard of living,” he said.
John said that apart from giving cash to farmers, ICRC also distributed herbicides, insecticides, improved seeds, among other farm inputs.
” Agriculture provides food, employment, and improves the standard of living of the people among other benefits,” he said.
He called on Nigerians to embrace agriculture, to be self-reliant, and contribute their quotas positively to societal development.
