The Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Nasarawa State Chapter, has cautioned against making inflammatory statements over the judgment delivered by the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal that sacked Gov. Abdullahi Sule of the state.
The group specifically appealed to ethnic and religious leaders as well as high profile personalities to desist from making such provocative statements.
Mr Ovey Waki, the Speaker, YAN Nasarawa State, made the call while speaking with newsmen in Lafia on Friday.
Waki advised the stakeholders to always preach the message of unity and peaceful co-existence for the overall development of the state.
“We appeal to ethnic and religious leaders as well as high profile personalities to desist from making inflammatory comments on the matter and to their followers in order to allow the law take its cause.
“You may recall that on Monday, October 2, 2023, the Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal delivered its judgment via Zoom in which the two judges nullified the return of His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule.
“As duly elected Governor of Nasarawa State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while the other judge upheld the election.
“As leadership of apex youth decision making body, we note with keen interest the mix feelings these judgments have brought to all and sundry, especially the youthful population in our state,” he said.
The speaker commended the tenacity and maturity displayed by both Gov. Abdullahi Sule and Dr David Umbugadu, the PDP governorship candidate, since the pronouncement of the judgments by the panel of the three judges.
“Giving the uncertainty that has beclouded the situation since Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule declared his intention to appeal the judgment of the Tribunal.
“We call on all sons and daughters of Nasarawa State, particular youths, to remain calm and express their divergent feelings with restraint – pending the final determination of the case by the superior Court,” he said.
Waki also called on the major actors in the case to continue to admonish their supporters to remain calm and not engage in acts that are capable of undermining the peace and stability presently being enjoyed across the state.
“Nasarawa State belongs to all of us and no individual or group of interest is superior to that of another.
“It is our responsibility to ensure that the state work and we must at all times show concern and contribute to its development,” the speaker urged.
He pledged the group’s commitment to the peaceful coexistence of the state and its prosperity.
