Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has launched the sales of 1,020 metric tons of fertilizer and other agricultural inputs for the 2021 cropping season on Thursday, April 29, 2021
Sule said at the ceremony in Andaha village near Akwanga, Akwanga Local Government Area (LGA), that the gesture was intended to improve agricultural production in the state.
Other agricultural inputs to be sold at subsidized rates to farmers include 1,950 sprayers, five tons of improved seeds, and various agrochemicals.
Sule stated that the fertilizers would be sold to farmers at a subsidized rate of N5000 per bag to mitigate the effects of the farmers’ hardships to ensure bumper harvests.
In fulfilment of his campaign promises to the voters, the governor stated that his administration has procured and distributed fertilizers and other agricultural inputs to farmers in the state since its inception in 2019.

“Last year, the government procured and supplied 240 metric tons of assorted fertilizers at subsidised rates to dry season farmers, as well as 930 metric tons (18,600 bags) of NPK 20:10:10 fertilizer for the 2020 cropping season,” he said.
Sule said that the state possesses fertile land and favourable climatic conditions for the production of arable crops for both domestic and export use.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to thoroughly use the state’s agricultural resources for the good of the people.
“Until our agricultural resources are adequately used, we would be unable to produce the desired jobs for our teeming population, as well as income for the society’s well-being.
“We must take deliberate measures and develop methods to increase our internal revenue generation capability through agricultural activities,” he said.
He noted that his administration will continue to cooperate and work with Development Partners as well as agricultural investors.
The governor cautioned against commodity diversion, warning that anyone found would face sanctions regardless of their position.
