FG guarantees justice for victims: The Federal Government has promised to bring those responsible for the recent attacks by unknown gunmen on three communities in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State to justice.
Vice President Yemi Osibanjo made the promise while speaking to state stakeholders in Abakaliki on Sunday, April 4 2021, after visiting the affected communities and the Effium/Ezza-Effium intercommunal crisis.
Osibanjo expressed regret for the incident and vowed that the perpetrators would be apprehended and punished properly.
“I am conveying President Muhammadu Buhari’s condolences, as there is no excuse for the killings and destruction of life and property.
“The killings must be condemned in the strongest possible terms because the victims must have known those who might have killed them for a long time,” he said.
According to the Vice President, it was the duty of the federal, state, and local governments to prevent such killings.

“However, I am pleased that the political leaders of the Egedegede Group discovered some facts and evidence that will help security agencies in their investigations.
“It will assist in the tracking down of the perpetrators of this heinous crime, but our responsibility as political leaders is to ensure total peace in the places where we serve,” he said.
He noted that the federal government has increased protection in the affected areas as well as other parts of the state by deploying more soldiers and police officers.
“We must ensure that relief is sent to the affected areas,” he said, adding that the National Emergency Management Agency, among other agencies, will be mobilized to assist the people with relief materials.
Gov. David Umahi thanked Vice President for accepting Buhari’s invitation to visit the state in its grief.
“You must have read in the newspapers and on social media how many insults South-East governors get for their attempts to maintain Nigeria’s unity.
“I thank God that we were able to avoid a significant retaliation when the incident occurred,” he said, adding that as the state’s chief security officer, he “cannot monitor the situation if such an attack happens again, he said
Chief Martin Elechi, the current governor’s immediate predecessor, on his part urged the Federal Government to put an end to the recent spate of killings and destruction across the country, which he described as “embarrassing.”
according to Chief Eni Uduma, a representative of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Ebonyi Chapter, the citizens could no longer tolerate the incessant killings and destruction of their property by those alleged to be herders.
