FG exclude Rivers state: The Federal Government of Nigeria has excluded Rivers State from benefitting states of its new borrowings.
The House of Representatives on Wednesday, September 22, said it will investigate the possible exclusion of Rivers State from the list of states eligible to benefit from the Federal Government’s borrowings.
Solomon Bob, a House of Representatives member who raised a motion of urgent public importance, claimed that Rivers is the only state out of 36 to be left out of the benefiting states in the federal government’s new loans.
This, according to Bob, is alleged discrimination against Rivers State, which contributes significantly to the federation account.
Following deliberation on the motion, the House Committee on Aids and Loans was directed to work with the presidency to include Rivers State in the loans if it is discovered to be the only state that has been excluded.
Governor Nyesom Wike discussed the exclusion earlier this week as well. He speculated that it was due to his ongoing battle with the Federal Inland Revenue Service over the collection of Value Added Tax.
