Edo youths burn five kidnappers: Five suspected kidnappers were at the weekend burnt to death by angry youths along the Afuze-Uokha road in Edo State’s Owan West Local Government Area.
According to reports, the suspected kidnappers, armed with various firearms, attacked and abducted some travellers who they took into the bush
When the local vigilante group learned of the kidnapping, they mobilized and apprehended the suspects in the bush.
It was, however, learned that locals, who were enraged by the recent spate of kidnappings in the area, snatched the suspects from the vigilantes as they were transporting them to the police station and set them ablaze.
“The kidnappers would have contacted the families of the abducted travellers to demand a ransom if it had not been for the bravery of the vigilantes, while locals who were fed up with these kidnappers’ criminal activities set them on fire and left them to die,” a source told Tribune.

The spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Kontongs Bello, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation was underway.
“Following the kidnapping, vigilantes went in search of the criminals, whom they apprehended in the bush.” As they passed through Uokha Community on their way to the police station, angry youths from Uokha and neighbouring towns kidnapped the suspected kidnappers from the vigilantes. All attempts to apprehend the suspects were futile because they were burned to death. “The investigation is still ongoing,” he said.
