“Don’t Rename UNN, It’ll Instigate Conflict In Nigeria” -Ohanaeze Warns Presidency
Ohanaeze, the leading Igbo sociocultural organization, has requested that the Presidency drop the idea of changing the name of the University of Nigeria Nsukka to Queen Elizabeth University of Nigeria.
The organization asserted that the relocation might be appropriate for Aso Rock Abuja or other regions of the North.
It also emphasized the need for Adamu Garba, a former presidential candidate for the Young Progressives Party, to formally apologize to Ndigbo for his inappropriate remarks.
Garba suggested on Friday that the UNN be renamed in honor of Queen Elizabeth, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 96, to honor her memory.
But reacting, the Chidi Ibeh-led Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said such remark was capable of instigating conflict in the country.

According to the statement, “The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has cautioned the Federal Government against renaming the foremost and most prestigious University, the University of Nigeria Nsukka after the late British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.
