On-air Nigerian media personality and show host, Oladotun Kayode popularly known as Do2dtun has revealed why many Nigerians lie about their age.
The talk about age has been on and off in the entertainment industry. However, it is clear that following BBNaija’s Chichi’s ’23rd’ birthday celebration yesterday, 10th January, the conversation surfaced again.
Do2tun took to Twitter to express why many Nigerians may choose to lie about their ages instead of telling the truth.
According to the on air personality, Do2tun, the Nigerian mentality has paved a way to stigmatize “age.”
He claimed that it is the fault of those who paint ageing to look bad.
He further added that in many cases, ageing is painted to look bad, and this is why many would opt to lie.
In his own words, he said: “Ageing is a crime in Nigeria. You don dey old o agbaya you are old; stop dressing like this. Some if you have limited anyone growing up to think it’s bad to be older. We are too ageist & that’s why a few have grown bad attributed of lying about their age.”
Recall that after the death of Davido’s son, Ifeanyi, Do2dtun cautioned those throwing blames on the parents, stating that it was not the best time to start putting blames on what the mourning parents shouldn’t have done or should have done.
He said: “How do we start a month with this..How.. Please Perfect parents, this is not the time to say what they should have done or not done right. Like can you just mourn and keep your advice for now. Are you all mad?, ” he wrote on Twitter.
Meanwhile, BBNaija ChiChi has been trending since she disclosed her age as 23, a declaration that didn’t go well with her fellow celebrities and some Netizens who called her out.
The controversy also lead to the suspension of her Twitter account after multiple users reported it.
