Dr. Cyprian Ngong, a medical doctor at the National Hospital Abuja, has obtained the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine as Nigeria starts mass vaccination.
On behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari, Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, flagged off the exercise on March 5, 2021.
Osagie Ehanire, the Minister of Health, speaking at the venue said it was important to first vaccinate health staff, while Dr. Faisal Shuaib, the Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, described the moment as a watershed moment.
Ngong, a frontline health worker at Abuja’s National Hospital Isolation Centre, speaking after he received the vaccine said his father died of the Coronavirus and wished he had received the vaccine.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, on the other hand, will collect their vaccine shots on Saturday to encourage people to get vaccinated.
Remember that Nigeria purchased more than four million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which arrived on March 2, 2021.
