The Federal Government of Nigeria has begun the enrolment of an additional 33,000 less privileged families in a monthly Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) scheme across 14 Local Government in Sokoto State.
Hajia Sadiya Abdullahi, the National Enrolment Manager, declared the additional beneficiaries at the start of a five-day orientation and enrolment training for Cash Transfer Facilitators (CTFs) on Thursday, April 1, 2021.
The CCT program offers a monthly stipend of N5,000 to poor and needy households.
Beneficiaries often receive training, financial assistance, and technical assistance in order to establish small businesses in their communities
The preparation, according to Abdullahi, was conducted in collaboration with the Sokoto State Cash Transfer Unit with the goal of increasing CTF capacity for the exercise.
She went on to say that 53,000 people had already enrolled in the program and were receiving stipends.
She clarified that the initiative was part of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs’ ongoing National Social Investment Program, among other items.
The program is aimed at lifting the poor and disadvantaged Nigerians out of poverty.
The program, according to the manager, has many elements, including mobilization, training on appropriate small-scale companies, monitoring and assessment, and grievance redressing, where complaints are heard.
“The programme is aimed at smoothening the benefiting households’ consumption and encourage them to engage in economic activities.
“At the end of the initiative, their livelihoods will be strengthened, poverty will be decreased, and access to education and healthcare will be improved in their respective communities,” Abdullahi said.
The CCT’s State Programme Officer, Hajia Kulu Nuhu, encouraged households to invest in agriculture and related businesses such as poultry, livestock, and food processing.
According to Nuhu, the scheme has improved beneficiaries’ livelihoods by allowing them to participate in various rural businesses.
