Gbenga Ajayi, a 40-year-old businessman, has been charged with allegedly receiving N1 million from a client for the purpose of acquiring an international passport.
Ajayi was arraigned in a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja, Lagos State, on Thursday, March 11, 2021.
The offenses were committed on February 15 and 17, 2021, at No. 9, Michael Ogun St., GRA, Ikeja Lagos State, according to the prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem.
The defendant, who lives in Abuja’s Maitama neighborhood, is also accused of collecting money under false pretenses and stealing.
According to Akeem, the defendant Ajayi received N1 million from the plaintiff, Mr. Olaniyi Odedokun, with the intention of obtaining an international passport for him.
zIn addition, Akeem , the defendant refused to keep his word, prompting the plaintiff to file a police report.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, were in violation of Sections 287 and 314 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.
After the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O. I Adelaja, granted him bail in the amount of N200,000 with two sureties in the same sum.
She also postponed the case until April 6, 2021, for further consideration.
