On Sep 7, 1956- Pele began his professional football career in Santos football team, where he won two Copa Libertadores titles and six Brazilian league crowns.
On June 19, 1958- Pele emerged the youngest player to appear in world cup final, as he spearheaded Brazil’s victory and became an icon at 17 years after scoring a brace to lead Brazil to the world cup victory.
The Brazilian star, Pele was recognized by the treasure by Brazil’s president after he scored the ‘gol de placa’. He is the crooner “samba football” in Brazil.
In 1962 Pele helped Brazil to triumph and emerge the world cup champions for the second time. And 7 years later, Nov 19, 1969 Pele scored his 1000th goal in professional football.
A year after, 1970 the icon gave Brazil another World Cup victory, for the third time, making him the first professional footballer to ever hold 3 world cup titles, and he made his last international appearance in a fixture against Yugoslavia in 1971.
Pele moved to the New York Cosmos following his retirement from his national football club, Santos. He received accolades for making soccer famous in North America.
Pele retired from football on October the 1st 1977 after his final game against Santos. He played for Cosmos in the first half and during the 2nd half he played for his old team Santos.
He became Brazil’s Extraordinary Minister for sports, and on December 29, 2022, he kicked the bucket at the age of 82.
Brazilian attacker and legend, Neymar Jr. has taken to his official social media accounts to mourn the death of the Brazilian football icon, Pele.
Following the disclosure of Pele’s death numerous footballers and fans have taken to their official social media pages to send their condolences, and Neymar Jr did not hesitate to join.
The former Barcelona striker and world cup winner via to his official Facebook page took the social media to deliver his heartfelt condolences to the Brazilian legend’s family.
He wrote: “Before Pele 10 was just a number. I have read this phrase somewhere at some point in my life. But this sentence, beautiful is incomplete. I would say before Pele football was just a sport. Pele has changed it all. He turned it into art, into entertainment. Gave voice to the poor, and blacks and mostly: Gave visibility to Brazil. Soccer and Brazil have raised their status to the king. He is gone but his magic remains. Pele is forever”, he wrote.
