After Erling Haaland scored in Manchester City’s 4-0 Premier League victory against Southampton at the weekend, Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has acknowledged that he was mistaken to have underestimated the striker.
Currently, Haaland has 20 goals in just 13 appearances for Man City across all competitions, including an astounding 15 Premier League goals in just nine games.
Pep Guardiola’s team is now second in the league, one point behind league-leading Arsenal, thanks to the 22-year-heroics old’s after nine games.
After moving to the Etihad from German club Borussia Dortmund in the summer, Ferdinand expressed his skepticism that Haaland would score many goals in the Premier League this season on BT Sport. Rio Ferdinand said, “No one knew what he [Haaland] would do, I am a big enough man to admit this guy is doing different bits now, it’s unheard of. It is stupid really.
“It is like a Sunday league player overage, he is doing it in the PL. People said he was only doing it in Germany.”
He added, “I was concerned he wouldn’t score the type of goals he did before at City with possession all the time, his instinct and understanding of the game, he said do not question me ever again.”
