Pep Guardiola’, the manager of Manchester City, has explained the distinction between Lionel Messi of Paris Saint-Germain and attacker Erling Haaland.
Haaland has had a great first season with Premier League champion Manchester City, scoring 17 goals and dishing out three assists across all competitions.
In Man City’s 6-3 triumph over Manchester United in the Premier League derby on Sunday at the Etihad, the Norwegian scored a hat-trick.
He has now scored 14 goals in the Premier League with his most recent three goals against Erik ten Hag’s team.
After the game, when asked if he felt the same emotions about Haaland as he did about Messi at Barcelona, Guardiola clarified the differences.
The Spaniard is of the fact that Lionel Messi is independent when it comes to becoming a top goal scorer while Haaland needs support, that being his teammates before he could put in a goal.
“Maybe the difference is that Erling needs all his teammates, while Messi could do it on his own,” the Spaniard, Pep Guardiola’ said at his post-match press conference.
