Raphael Varane, a defender for Manchester United, has talked about how he’s improved following a rocky start at Old Trafford.
Raphael Varane struggled after moving to Real Madrid.
WHAT OCCURED?
After joining the Red Devils from Real Madrid in the summer of 2021, the France international had a disappointing first season. Varane has nevertheless made an impact in the first few games of the campaign with fresh face Lisandro Martinez at the center of Manchester United’s defense, and he has provided an explanation for why he thinks things have changed for the better at the organization.
WHAT THEY SAID: “I had a complete pre-season, I was able to work well on the physical level and I continue, I feel better and it shows on the ground,” he said. “At the start of the season, we had to fight on the pitch, we have to continue like that.”
Varane has appeared revitalized under new boss Erik ten Hag and finally seems to be living up to his £40 million price tag. At Old Trafford, the Frenchman and Martinez’s good partnership forced captain Harry Maguire to the bench and was a major factor in the team’s recent improvement in performance.
ARE YOU AWARE?
After losing their first two games this season in the Premier League, Manchester United has won four straight games. They are only the third team in league history, after Tottenham in 2011–12 and Arsenal in 2018–19, to manage this run.
WHAT WILL VARANE DO NEXT? On Sunday, the defender will play for Manchester United in the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium, making his Premier League comeback.
