King Charles III of the United Kingdom resides in Nigeria and is quite knowledgeable about local events. He interacted with Peter Obi, the current Labour Party presidential contender, in 2018, while he was still a Prince. Both men met in Abuja, where they discussed a variety of topics.
Right there in the presence of Paul Arkwright, the British High Commissioner, the new King voiced his concern about the security situation. While the conference continued in the diplomat’s home, a lot about the economy was also covered, and Obi took notes.
Obi has just as many fans at home as he has in the United Kingdom. The former governor of Anambra State visited the British Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street in May 2022. Obi was warmly welcomed by Boris Johnson, who was in power at the time. Their conversations focused on trade and investment.
This scenario is encouraging since Obi has his sights set on the presidency and it may occur during the reign of King Charles, who also paid a visit in May 1999, just before Dr. Olusegun Obasanjo took office. When the Commonwealth Heads of Government met in Abuja in 2003, the former military Head of State welcomed Queen Elizabeth.
I’m paying close attention. I believe King Charles will have a more favorable impact on Nigeria than any other country.
“I won’t join my sister Uju Anya in lamenting how Biafra was treated during the reign of Queen Elizabeth. Yes, a lot happened, and we may have a case for blaming the British government for some of the crimes committed.
Queen Elizabeth was too young to comprehend how some colonial workers made the wrong decision out of self-serving motives that might have been at odds with her feelings as a mother. King Charles, however, has reached the appropriate age.
More of a criminal than Tubman Goldie. Both he and God were unknown to him. Because there was no Act of Parliament to support his Royal Niger Company’s charter, which was used to steal our territory, it was fabricated”.
David Hunt, the British High Commissioner, went all out to persecute Biafra during the Civil War. The boss filled London with white lies against the advise of Deputy High Commissioner James Parker, who had a thorough understanding of Eastern Nigeria.
The same Brits offered us a lot to be happy about. In 1948, the year that Queen Elizabeth wed, Sir Arthur Richards, who governed Nigeria on behalf of her father, King George, turned the European Club into the Ikoyi Club and hurled racial prejudice into the lagoon. Government Reserve Area was formerly the European Quarters.
Prior to that, Mary Slessor made Calabar her new destination after leaving Scotland. She prevented the horrible extinction of twins. We have the Hope Waddell Training Institution as a result of her, which helped shape Drs. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Akanu Ibiam.
There will undoubtedly be a much to talk about in continuation of that conversation in Abuja three years ago when Obi and King Charles III next meet. Imagine that Obi finds himself in Buckingham Palace and that the presidency is in his favor.
The British king would describe to Obi how the Queen visited in 1956 if it is history. The discussion will probably focus on how to make Nigeria function. It was founded by the British, who have the authority to breathe life into the nation for the benefit of everybody.
One thing to remember, leaders. I hope they witnessed King Charles’ unrestricted travel from Wales to Scotland and returned to England. With the young, the old, and everyone in between, he shook hands and exchanged banters with them.
