Wilfred Ndidi would not play in the friendly matches between Nigeria and Algeria. This was declared by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The Super Eagles will play this weekend’s “Algeria B squad” and the “Algeria Main Team” later on Tuesday.
Before their formal match against the Fennecs (Algeria’s “A” team) on Tuesday night in Oran, the Eagles’ coach, Jose Peseiro, gave his approval for the team to play a training match against Algeria’s “B” team on Saturday.
Before now, numerous injuries had forced changes to the original list of invited players.
Even though it appeared that Ndidi had suffered his final blow, many people were rudely surprised to learn of this.
“Just in: @NGSuperEagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is injured and out of the game against Algeria. He has left the team’s camp and returned to England. Get well soon Wilfred🙏” the NFF wrote.
Samuel Chukwueze, Henry Onyekuru, and Ahmed Musa were all on Jose Peseiro’s initial list of invited players for the Algeria friendly.
Since then, everyone has withdrawn owing to one or more injury claims.
After missing the crucial World Cup playoff matches against Ghana’s Black Stars, Ndidi is just now making a comeback to national team responsibilities.
In the same way, he was unable to play in either of the AFCON qualification games against Sierra Leone or Sao Tome and Principe.
It would be difficult to predict how long Ndidi would be sidelined because there has been absolutely no information provided about the nature of the “mystery” injury he sustained.
The midfielder might not be available for Leicester City’s next Premier League game against Nottingham Forest and the opportunity to help his club team from the bottom of the standings, depending on the severity of the injury.
Ndidi will be hoping to be back in shape in time for Nigeria’s friendly game against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal on November 17, which will take place just before the Qatar 2022 World Cup starts. With no games yet under Eagles manager Peseiro.
