Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, a gifted singer from Nigeria better known as Ayra Starr in the entertainment industry, has stated that she has always known that music will have a significant impact on and change her life.
She disclosed this in a recent submission she made to Spotify, where she stated the following:
“Ever since I was a child, I knew that one day, music would change my whole life. Growing up, I knew I was going to be a musician.
“I did not know when or how it would happen, but I knew it would eventually happen. Even when I was around six or seven years old, I used to argue with choir members in church whenever they said I could not be the lead singer.
“I used to tell them that when I became a superstar, they would not be able to tell me that.”
With the release of her self-titled debut extended play in 2021 and the success of its lead single “Away,” which spent two weeks in a row at number four on Nigeria’s TurnTable Top 50 and peaked at number 17 on the US Billboard Top Triller Global, the musician gained widespread recognition. This paved the way for the August 2021 release of her debut full-length studio album, 19 & Dangerous.
The EP has gained favor with critics and is mostly categorized as Afropop and R&B. It gave rise to two top forty songs in Nigeria.
Ayra Starr became the first female solo artist to achieve this feat when her EP’s lead single, “Bloody Samaritan,” reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. On August 28, 2021, Starr was rated second on Billboard’s Next chart after making her debut on Pandora’s predictions chart.
