Elon Musk, a billionaire entrepreneur, has acquired total control of Twitter after paying $44 billion for it.
This was disclosed by Twitter on Monday according to reports.
The sale represented a significant change for the board, which had previously tried to prevent Musk from taking the social media network private.
Elon Musk intends to make some changes to Twitter following his appointment as the new owner.
The billionaire conducted a closed survey in which users were asked to answer yes or no to the issue of whether they believed there was freedom of expression on Twitter; 70% of respondents said no.
Since becoming the new CEO of Twitter, Musk intends to rebuild the platform so that people may express themselves freely without fear of being censored.
As you may recall, the Tesla co-founder has spoken about a ‘Edit Button’ on the platform in the past and even held a poll about it.
“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” Musk said in a joint statement announcing the takeover.
He purposefully misspelt yes and no to make a point. This was done to emphasise the necessity for an edit button, considering the number of typos that individuals make while tweeting.

Similarly, Musk proposed that Twitter’s algorithm be made open source, and 83 percent of the one million people who responded to another survey agreed with him.
Another noteworthy issue is Musk’s belief that Twitter users should be able to see if their posts have been lowered or elevated in order to avoid manipulation.
