American NGO donates drugs: A United States-based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), MAP Donation International, has donated Antibiotic drugs, worth N10 billion, to the Bauchi state government.
Alhaji Isa Sale, the senior special Assistant on multilateral affairs, presenting the drugs to Governor Bala Mohammed in Bauchi on Thursday, said the gesture is aimed at promoting and revitalizing the health sector in the state.
He explained that the drugs are Daptomycin for injection 500mg/vial (Antibiotic drug) which could cure many ailments, saying “we would continue to provide such humanitarian gestures.”
He said the donation was informed by the glaring commitment of Gov. Mohammed in healthcare delivery despite the limited resources and other health challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and outbreak of yellow fever.
He added that MAP international has, in collaboration with Reed Foundation, approved the donation of additional five containers of drugs for critical diseases such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Cancer and acute respiratory diseases to the Bauchi state government.

“The state would also receive the World Health Organization (WHO) prenatal supplements for distribution to 180,000 pregnant women free of charge,” he said.
Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman, the Emir of Dass who responded on behalf of other traditional rulers, lauded the efforts of the donors, especially for considering the state worthy of benefiting from such a gesture.
He said the traditional rulers would closely monitor utilization of the drugs as well as ensure the safe custody of the drugs during delivery to rural communities.
In his remarks, Gov. Mohammed assured that the drugs would be distributed equitably and in accordance with the needs of a particular health facility, devoid of political or sectional considerations.
He said the drugs would be distributed across secondary, primary and tertiary health facilities, saying “we would extend the gesture to our neighbours in other states.”
He directed the state ministry of health to set up a committee that would handle distribution of the drugs to the target beneficiaries, failure of which would attract disciplinary action.
He noted that his administration has commenced renovation of 14 general hospitals, with doctors’ accommodation, adding “We would recruit additional medical doctors for effective and wider coverage of our health facilities.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that MAP International provides medicines and health supplies across the world.
