The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Aderemi Adeoye has urged the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) to show more commitment towards promoting national unity.
Adeoye made the call on Monday in Awka when the new executive members of SWAN, Anambra Chapter, visited him.
He said that although sports writers had been playing a pivotal role in strengthening the unity of the country, such role should be reinvigorated.
”The association has been doing a noble service to the country for decades, you have to deepen this role,” he said.
The commissioner further commended SWAN for its frontline roles towards sports development in the country.
Adeoye said that the police would partner SWAN to organise sporting activities for security agencies in the state.
He said that the plan to organise sporting activities for security personnel was to promote fitness and unity among officers.
Earlier, the Chairman, Chimezie Anaso, commended the police command for its commitment towards protecting the lives and property of residents of the state.
He pledged the association`s renewed synergy with the police in the interest of sports development, and security of lives and property in the state.
”We can only host sporting events when the environment is peaceful. So it is crucial to work closely with the police,” he said
