The Nigerian government has joined an Indian-owned microblogging platform, Koo, just a week after the country’s operations of the American-owned microblogging site, Twitter, were suspended.
The Nigerian Government’s verified Koo account, titled “Government of Nigeria,” has 6,000 followers at the moment.
Aprameya Radhakrishna, co-founder and CEO of Koo, confirmed the Nigerian government’s presence on Koo in a post shared on his Twitter account @aprameya.
He tweeted;
“A very warm welcome to the official handles of the Government of Nigeria on @kooindia! Spreading wings beyond India now”

The Federal Government through the platform announce it’s plan to debut an hour documentary for the commemoration of June 12 Democracy Day.
Koo is a Bengaluru, India-based microblogging and social networking service. Aprameya Radhakrishna and Mayank Bidawatka created the app, which was previously known as Ku Koo Ku.
In August 2020, it won the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar App Innovation Challenge. The app is currently worth more than $100 million.
Koo’s advancement came as a result of the Indian government’s numerous disagreements with Twitter. In the last nearly six months, the Centre has asked Twitter to remove several tweets and suspend accounts that it considers illegal.
Twitter, however, did not always comply with these requests, causing friction between the two parties.
The Indian government also said Twitter has failed to comply with India’s new IT rules for digital media intermediaries.
