Alhaji Mahmud Zakariyya, an Islamic cleric in Bauchi State says the high rate of immortality in Nigeria is the cause of lack of rainfall in the country, especially in the Northern State.
He stated this when Bauchi farmers held a special prayer for rain as days pass without rainfall
Prayers, according to Zakariyya, are unavoidable due to the high rate of immorality in the society which is affecting farm production.
“More prayers are needed for God to intervene. “Now is the time to put an end to all immoral acts in society, such as wanton killings, fornication, gossip, and kidnapping,” he said.
A cash crop farmer in Alkaleri, Malam Babaji Alkaleri, told the Newsmen that the prolonged dry spell had hampered early planting.
”We resorted to a special prayer to God for help. Farmers who planted early have been impacted by the dry spell.

”For the past 16 years, I have been planting and selling various types of vegetables and root crops, and I have profited when there has been rain.
“Adequate water supply is critical for successful and sustainable farming.” Crops die without water, farmers lose income, and people go hungry,” he explained.
Mr Ayuba Sallau, another farmer, stated that crops had dried up due to a lack of rain.
“What we are going through right now is extremely difficult. “We rallied our colleagues to participate in this special prayer,” Sallau explained.
Dr Iliyasu Gital, an agronomist, also spoke and advised farmers to accelerate the development of irrigation facilities.
“Natural disasters are beyond our control; it is something we cannot change; however, farmers must use water sparingly when watering plants,” Gital noted.
He urged farmers not to be discouraged by the prolonged dry spell and to focus on crops that can be cultivated and harvested in three to four months.
